The Final Days For The Lost Continent At Islands Of Adventure!

Even with the scent of fresh paint still lingering from recent projects, Universal Orlando isn’t slowing down. The resort’s next wave of development looks to be underway with the planned demolition of a large section of The Lost Continent at Islands of Adventure — one of the park’s original lands.

A newly filed permit calls for the removal of “retail, show, and attraction buildings”, specifically targeting the long-closed Poseidon’s Fury and The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad, along with their surrounding areas.

Universal confirmed the plans in a statement to the Orlando Business Journal, explaining that the demolition is

“part of site planning to ensure the area is ready for any future developments.”

A Shrinking Land

When Islands of Adventure opened in 1999, The Lost Continent was among the six debut lands, celebrated for its mythical theming and original attractions. Over time, however, the area has steadily been reduced:

  • 2010: A large portion was transformed into Hogsmeade, part of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
  • 2017: The beloved Dueling Dragons coaster closed to make way for Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure.
  • 2018: The Eighth Voyage of Sinbad stunt show ended.
  • 2023: Poseidon’s Fury closed after more than two decades of operation.

Today, only a handful of shops and food kiosks remain operational in what was once a centerpiece of the park.

What’s Next?

The site covers roughly five acres, making any replacement more compact than other lands in the park. Universal could use the space to expand The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, or it might introduce an entirely new land. For now, the plans remain under wraps, but either direction would add another major project to Universal’s already ambitious lineup.

Looking Ahead

Universal Orlando keeps raising the bar, refreshing and expanding its lineup year after year. The resort opened Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure, continues building the massive Epic Universe park, and even cleared Rip Ride Rockit to prepare for a brand-new attraction. Universal shows no signs of slowing down.

Fans now wait eagerly to see what will replace The Lost Continent, but one thing is certain — Universal will keep pushing its parks forward.
