The Forbidden Corner’s – The Forgotten Corner 2025 Review

A Scare Event with a Unique Twist

The Forgotten Corner is the newly rebranded scare event hosted by The Forbidden Corner in Leyburn, North Yorkshire. Returning for its second year, the event takes the surreal, whimsical setting of one of Yorkshire’s most iconic family attractions and twists it into something far darker.

We were genuinely surprised during its debut year at how well this tucked-away attraction in the Yorkshire Dales managed to pull off a full-scale, adult-themed scare event. So when the invite came to experience their brand-new 2025 edition, excitement was sky-high.

The Setting & Concept

The event keeps things beautifully simple. Rather than overreaching or throwing in unnecessary spectacle, The Forbidden Corner plays to its strengths, its natural landscape. The existing attraction already features crypts, mausoleums, hedge mazes, wooded pathways, and bizarre architecture, all of which lend themselves perfectly to a scare event.

This isn’t an event built around massive sets or high-budget facades; instead, it relies on clever lighting, eerie ambience, and the natural eeriness of the surroundings. It’s a winding linear walkthrough with a strong focus on scares and actor interaction and it works brilliantly.

Ticketing & Atmosphere

The Forgotten Corner is ticket-only, and local restrictions limit the number of guests per night. This not only makes the event feel more exclusive but also ensures that groups are well-spaced, heightening the sense of isolation. We never once caught up to another group (or were caught ourselves) adding to the feeling that we were completely alone in the darkness.

You’ll start your night in the queue line, entertained (and insulted) by the razor-tongued Mallow, who this year has been given free rein. Within minutes we were holding questionable sex props, blushing from the verbal abuse, and quickly realising that this was not a “bring-your-brave-12-year-old” kind of event. This was a full-on 18+ experience, gleefully pushing boundaries and we loved it.

The Experience

Once inside, the scares hit instantly. The team has made major layout changes since last year, meaning even returning guests will find a fresh experience.

The scare intensity was impressive, not through deafening audio or flashing lights, but through silence, clever pacing, and intimate encounters. The sense of being lost in darkness, with actors emerging from nowhere, created some genuinely heart-pounding moments.

A standout scene came from the “medic,” who, after isolating me from Luci, wrapped his latex-gloved hands around my face, cheek pressed against mine, whispering taunts in the dark. That level of personal, physical interaction was unnerving in all the right ways and created a level of fear no sound effect could match.

This raw physicality ran throughout the event, it was unpredictable, unnervingly close, yet always controlled and professional. To balance things out, there were lighter moments too, with actors delivering genuinely funny, quick-witted dialogue that made the experience entertaining as well as terrifying.

Characters & Creativity

One of the biggest improvements this year is the introduction of distinct themed zones, each with its own unique cast. These aren’t your typical clowns, zombies, or vampires. Instead, you’ll meet The Harolds (a deranged family of hillbilly pigs), a terrifying maritime crew, and perhaps the most skin-crawling of all The Hags, deformed bird-like creatures whose haunting sounds are impossible to forget.

This originality sets The Forgotten Corner apart. It’s clear the creative team wanted to avoid clichés and instead craft something that truly belongs to The Forbidden Corner’s strange universe.

Post-Event Relaxation

After surviving the walkthrough, guests are led by the charismatic Mr Fungi to The White Goose Pizza Restaurant, a charming retreat to decompress after the chaos.

The food is fantastic and incredibly good value with options like pizzas, soups, and giant hot dogs made from local sausage, with mains costing around £9. It’s also where you’ll find the limited event merch, including magnets, mugs, and beanie hats, the perfect keepsakes from a night you won’t forget.

Overall Verdict

The Forgotten Corner may not have the sprawling hub areas, live bands, or festival-style atmosphere of larger events, but that’s precisely what makes it special. It doesn’t try to compete; it focuses on doing its own thing, and doing it extremely well.

This event thrives on intimacy, unpredictability, and the power of its environment. It has personal intimate eeriness and is completely unique. By leaning into the strange charm of The Forbidden Corner itself rather than copying the big-budget formula, it’s carved out a distinct identity in the UK scare scene.

With tickets already selling fast, it seems we’re not the only ones who think so.

Verdict: A raw, intimate, and brilliantly unsettling scare experience that proves less can truly be more.
Rating: 9/10 – Original, intimately terrifying, and completely unforgettable.
