Nestled deep in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, within the beautiful Tupgill Park Estate near Leyburn, lies one of the UK’s most unusual attractions – The Forbidden Corner. Often described as “the strangest place on earth”, it’s the kind of hidden gem you wouldn’t stumble upon by accident, but once you do, you’ll never forget it.
We’ve been visiting The Forbidden Corner regularly since Henry was born, and it remains one of those rare attractions that never gets boring. From twisting tunnels and forest labyrinths to underground crypts and hidden chambers, every visit reveals something new. Stepping through the iconic Face Tower entrance feels like entering another world – one filled with weird and wonderful surprises around every corner.
Over the last 12 years, we’ve returned at least 15 times, and no two visits have ever been the same. Part of the magic lies in how the attraction constantly evolves, adding new features and seasonal event days such as Wizards Weekend, Halloween Adventures, and Festive Fantasies. These themed events bring an extra layer of fun and make it well worth revisiting.
It’s not just for families either. Luci and I have often taken the opportunity to explore while Henry’s at school, and we’ve had just as much fun on our own as we do with him. The Forbidden Corner truly caters to all ages, blending playfulness with imagination in a way that appeals to both children and adults alike.

After a day of adventure, there are plenty of options to relax and refuel. The Forbidden Corner Café serves a variety of dishes made with locally sourced ingredients, while the White Goose Pizza offers freshly made, wood-fired Italian pizzas that taste every bit as good as they look. And before heading home, don’t miss the merchandise shop, where you can pick up quirky souvenirs – including the plush Face Tower toy that now proudly sits on Henry’s bed.
